IQA European Games 2019 in Bamberg, Germany

For the first time ever, the IQA European Games will come to Germany in June 2019. The International Quidditch Association today announced Bamberg as the winning bid to host the tournament.

Magical news for Upper Franconia: the IQA European Games 2019 will take place in Bamberg. In the final decision round, the German bid was chosen over its last remaining rival from Getxo near Bilbao in Spain. Three years fter the World Cup 2016 in Frankfurt/Main, it will be the second time that Team Germany is playing in front of a home audience. Building on the support of the German fans, Team Germany has their eyes set on their first ever tournament medal.
The European Games take place from 27 to 30 June 2019 at the sports grounds of the Fuchs Park Stadium. Close to 25 European nations are to be expected, including Austria and Switzerland.

Event management startup Three River Sport Events from Passau was the driver behind the successful bid. "We are looking forward to welcome the international quidditch community to Bamberg", Lena Nicklas from Three River Sport Events comments on the IQA announcement. "Together with the City of Bamberg and the FC Eintracht Bamberg 2010 e.V. we want to offer athletes, volunteers and spectators a wonderful tournament that lives up to the previous success of the World Cup 2016. It'll be a great spectator experience." The World Cup 2016 drew thousands of new and old quidditch fans to Frankfurt to watch the sport being played on the highest level. Tens of thousands more followed the tournament in the online livestream from all around the world.
